2013 ram 1500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. In fact, the sheetmetal is all the same and surface changes are minor. However, most of what lies beneath and bookends that sheetmetal is new or revised for 2013. the ram 1500, considered a half-ton, can carry loads of stuff and can tow trailers similar to what the competition will. At introduction, the 2013 ram gets bragging rights for best fuel economy. The engine is new only to ram, already used in chrysler group's jeeps, vans and cars. Ram hfe is aimed at high fuel economy: ram hfe gets an epa-rated 18/25 mpg city/highway with v6 and 8-speed automatic. also significant news for 2013, and a first in pickups, is an 8-speed automatic transmission from german manufacturer zf. It is standard with the v6 and will be available on the 5. 7-liter v8 by calendar year 2013. The air suspension is available on any model except the new ram hfe fuel economy special, which includes automatic start/stop engine operation and a bed cover. other changes for 2013 include electric-assist steering, more sophisticated electrical systems, active grille shutters, projector and led lights on higher-line versions, revised cabin materials and dashboards, a lighter frame and box supports, more aluminum suspension components, central locking system that includes tailgate and rambox compartments, low rolling resistance tires (for fuel economy), keyless entry/start, power sliding defrostable rear window, power folding mirrors and rain-sensing wipers. on the outside, ram continues with imposing stature. Like many dodge cars, the ram's front end has a forward tilt, but it remains very aerodynamic. Detailing for 2013 lowered the coefficient of drag (one aspect of total aero resistance) from 0. 386 to 0. 360. the ram is a conventional full-size pickup truck, but it differs in rear suspension and powertrains from all its competitors: primarily ford f-150 and the chevrolet silverado/gmc sierra twins, and to a lesser extent the nissan titan and toyota tundra. Though it varies by region there are 10 ram 1500 nameplates. brand loyalty in pickup trucks makes some sports rivalries look like civilized debate, and many will recommend only one despite the fact that there are no bad pickups. Shopping is made more difficult by so-called competitive comparisons we've seen online that imply drum brakes are better than disc brakes (we disagree) or 300 horsepower is superior to 400 pound-feet of torque (ditto). Add to that payload and tow ratings that change frequently. Gm and ford half-tons offer more engine choices but none has an 8-speed automatic. Some of these, such as big horn and lone star, are primarily cosmetic and packaging and available only in certain regions. Note ram terminology can be confusing: some 'long' and 'short' beds are the same length, depending on cab, so shop by tape measure, not ram's labels. There is no tradesman 1500 hd for 2013. (ram heavy duty 2500 and 3500 pickups are covered in a separate review.) ram tradesman, slt, and outdoorsman are available in all body styles; all others are restricted to certain cabs and/or bed lengths. the 4. 7-liter v8 and 6-speed automatic are standard on tradesman and optional on slt. The v6 and 8-speed automatic are standard on hfe and slt models, optional on tradesman. The 5. 7-liter hemi v8 and 6-speed automatic are optional on tradesman and slt, and standard on everything else. No manual transmissions are offered. ram tradesman models are workhorses with standard vinyl floor, manual windows and gray vinyl 40/20/40 bench seat. Options include chrome wheels and trim, fog lamps, bed cover, uconnect 5. 0 with bluetooth, cd player, backup camera, sliding rear window, power and trailer mirrors, carpeting, cloth seats, block heater, 32-gallon fuel tank and air suspension. Sport includes the 5. 7-liter hemi, slate-gray contrast-stitched bucket seats, body-color bumpers, fog lamps, on-demand 4wd and 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels. The sport r/t regular cab 2wd short bed gets a 4. 10:1 rear axle and 285/45r22 tires on polished aluminum wheels but will still tow 5050 pounds.

2013 toyota rav4 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. While the 2013 rav4 may look a touch better than the outgoing model, and drive better too, in true toyota fashion it remains remarkably vanilla. the rav4 was introduced to the u. S market back in 1995 as the world's first crossover suv. Since then, three progressive generations have been developed, including the current generation 2006 rav4. The spare wheel is no longer stored on the tailgate but in the more commonly used location under the trunk floor. Despite the changes, it still looks remarkably uninspiring and bland. the 2013 rav4 interior gets some nice upgrades, including a softex leather band that runs the entire width of the dash. While the feel doesn't scream luxury, it does stack up well against the competition, and comfort is good too. on the road, the 2013 rav4 is nice step forward in terms of handling. It's feels far firmer and planted than before. The steering feels a touch rubbery, but braking is good. Despite the improvements, the car still fails to engage the driver. It's better, but not fun. overall, the new 2013 rav4 is a solid improvement over the outgoing model. The optional rearview camera can help the driver spot a child behind the car when backing up. Optional all-wheel drive can improve handling stability in slippery conditions. walkaroundthe 2013 rav4 is an evolution of the bland outgoing model. While it has been modernized and freshened, it is still very conservative. Toyota is conscious to try and inject more passion into their vehicles, but understand the ramifications of alienating their loyal crop of current customers. The rav4 is most definitely designed with them in mind. toyota describes the new design as dynamic, sleek, and aggressive. The protruding front overhang looks like a boxer with a swollen lip, and little has been done to portray emotion or modernization from the front angle. Headlights do not receive the leds that have become standard amongst manufacturers, although halogen headlights are now adorned. The roofline slopes back from the front window, with a rear spoiler extending the roofline's arc, as well as enhancing the rav4's aerodynamic co-efficiency. furthering the car's aerodynamic prowess are small vortex generators, molded into the taillight cases and near the base of the a-pillars. Aero undertrays beneath the passenger cabin help smooth and control airflow. These updates improve drag from 0. 334 cd to 0. 329 cd, aiding in improved fuel economy. interiorthe new rav4 interior resembles the rav4 of old, but adds more technology, better quality materials and increased comfort, putting the 2013 rav4 nicely in line with its competitors. It breaks up the monotony of plastic, allowing a more expensive feel to the cabin. the door trim and leather band is distinguished by contrasting colors, including beige, gray, black (which simply doesn't work and looks odd) and terra cotta on the limited model. Softex is a leather substitute that is fractionally cheaper to make. While the feel may be slightly inferior to real leather, it isn't sacrificing much. the steering wheel is telescopic and in the rav4 limited model it is wrapped with leather. The center console is well laid out and all the dials are intuitive. The 6. 1-inch screen looks a little 2005, but at the same time, we appreciate that it comes as a standard feature in all models. the gear lever on the limited model is draped in leather, but in all models, the lower part of the center console is made of a very cheap, flimsy plastic. The sun visors are also the worst quality we have ever seen. They feel like they derived from wal-mart. poor quality plastic continues in various places throughout the cabin, and it feels like it undoes some of the sophistication added by the leather on the dash and door panels. It's like buying a hugo boss suit from nordstrom, then finishing the look off with a tommy bahama shirt. on a brighter note, the push button start on the limited model is a nice touch, and the second row seating is comfortable with decent legroom (37. 2 inches). This is, in fact, an inch less than the old rav4 but the front seats have been granted an extra inch with trunk space increasing, too. With the second row folded flat, cargo space increases by 0. 4-inches, giving it a class-leading total of 73. 4-inches. in general, the 2013 rav4 is a comfortable, pleasing place to be. We just wish they hadn't skimped on the quality of the plastic utilized, as that really neutralizes an otherwise excellent job. driving impressionwhile the 2013 rav4 is a marked improvement over the outgoing model, it still lacks character, emotion and engagement. The more powerful v6 option available in the outgoing rav4 is ditched, with toyota stating they sat stagnant on dealers' lots. replacing the old 4-speed transmission is a 6-speed automatic that uses the last two gears as overdrive for increased fuel-efficiency. fuel economy has been improved, earning an epa-estimated 24/31/26 mpg city/highway/combined with front-wheel drive (compared to 22/28/24 mpg for the old rav4) and 22/2.
